Their aesthetic blending of form and function with art and execution is an integral part of the country’s persona, where “la bella figura” remains an important aspect of the Italian way of life.Often overlooked (under the growl of Ferraris and ohhs and ahs of couture runways) are the gorgeous Italian accessories which can make or break an outfit, a scene, a successful party, a loved gift.Until now.Enter Colori, a dazzlingly colorful boutique on Mission Street which offers up an ever-changing array of affordably-priced Italian accessories handpicked by Lori Samuels, its owner and muse, whose addiction to small Italian craftsmanship leads her to amazing discoveries.Being a boutique, Samuels points out that many of her store’s products aren’t sold in the United States, but rather each is brought over “one piece at a time” .Her shop doesn’t sell big-box mass-made Italian brands like Valentino, Gucci or Armani, but rather Samuels discovers, curates and offers pieces from small boutique craft rooms and factories that present eloquently conceived design matched by exquisite craftsmanship.“Almost no one’s heard of some of these brands, but that is the fun of it. When someone walks into Colori, they will find items that are unique in color and design, all with attention to detail and quality, says Samuels. The brands that Colori has introduced to southern California include “eyeglass frames from a company called ‘Look at Me’, designed and produced in the Province of Belluno. Known for using materials that are both robust and light, these glasses are truly exceptional,” says Samuels. The pieces are utilitarian but mesmerizingly beautiful.Samuels also tells us about another delicious discovery: “a watch company called Full Spot” which produces a line of fun mix-and-match watches where users can change watch straps, watch faces, according to what they wear or feel.”Many of the sterling silver pieces in Colori are one of a kind. Samuels explains, “the Giacobbi silver is only sold outside of Italy to me and to stores in Moscow, Tokyo and Lugano – that’s it.”Colorful accessories for home, office and travels as well as Cruciani handbags make up most of the store’s inventory.“In this entire store I think we have one black handbag!” Samuels says with a smile. “So it’s all about color.”At Colori – the accent is always on color!Colori is located at 2639 Mission St., San Marino.
