first_imgThe Limacol Knockout Football tournament continued on Monday evening with Beacon FC and Riddim Squad securing convincing wins over their opponents in battles conducted at the Ministry of Education Ground on Carifesta Avenue, Georgetown.Sponsored by the new GPC through their Limacol brand, this tournament is gradually shaping up for a seismic finish.In Monday’s proceedings, Beacon needled Grove Hi Tech in the first battle. Being one of the favourites in the tournament, Grove Hi Tech had the support of the boisterous crowd, and started strong on the offence, but were unfortunately unable to secure a goal in their many chances.After much back-and-forth in the first half of the game, Kimba Brathwaite of Beacon FC found the back of the Hi Tech net in the 53rd minute, and the matchupPart of the action in the Limacol Football Tournament being played at the Ministry of Education Groundcontinued with both sides striking in vain until the regulation time whistle.Minutes later, the second match-up of the night began, and it turned out to be a truly one-sided affair, with Riddim Squad trouncing their opponents, Camptown FC.Both teams possessed experienced players who were aware of what they had to do from the first whistle, but nearing the end of the first half of play, in the 33rd minute, Wendell Joseph of Riddim Squad netted the first goal of the encounter.The sneaky goal came as a shock to Camptown, and they did not regain their composure quickly enough to prevent Riddim Squad’s Kevon Gordon from delivering another net-piercer in the 35th minute.And although they played good defence for the rest of the match, Riddim Squad’s Kevin Agard was still able to penetrate their net in the 73rd minute, to take the score to 3-0 by time the 90 minutes were over.The tournament will continue tomorrow, Thursday, September 13, with Santos coming up against Pouderoyen, and Police facing off against Pele Football Club at 20hrs.A total of twelve teams are competing in this tournament for a chance to grab the first prize of $600,000.last_img read more
